BG 17.22
अदेशकाले यद्दानमपात्रेभ्यश्च दीयते ।
असत्कृतमवज्ञातं तत्तामसमुदाहृतम् ॥

adeśa-kāle yad dānam apātrebhyaś ca dīyate
asat-kṛtam avajñātaṁ tat tāmasam udāhṛtam
asat-kṛtam avajñātaṁ tat tāmasam udāhṛtam
Word-for-word meanings
tat — that; dānam — charity; yat — which; dīyate — is given; adeśa-kāle — at an inappropriate place and time; apātrebhyaḥ — to unworthy recipients; asat-kṛtam — without respect; ca — and; avajñātam — disdainfully; udāhṛtam — is said to be; tāmasam — of the nature of tamas.
Translation
Charity given at an inappropriate place and time, to unworthy recipients, without respect and disdainfully, is said to be of the nature of tamas.
