Notes
* Yajña is usually understood to be a Vedic ritual to please the devas. In such a ceremony, oblations are offered into the fire and mantras are recited. The word yajña is also a name of Lord Viṣṇu, the supreme beneficiary of the activities of yajña. The Vedas enjoin: yajño vai viṣṇuḥ, “Yajña is indeed Viṣṇu.” This meaning is also supported by verses 15 and 30.
